Staff has noticcd that the daily wcar and <br />tear of nonnal work day duties havc taken a toll on thc interior corners of City Hall. Thc <br />damagc is mainly confined to the main lcvel, but both thc upper and lowcr Icvcls have <br />rcccived some damage as well. Staff was directcd by thc City Administrator to explore <br />thc option of installing corner guards. <br /> <br />City Hall <br />Thcrc are a total of 71 comers in City Hall. The breakdown is as follows: <br /> <br />Upper Lcvel 8 <br />Council Chambers 9 <br />Lower Lcvel 12 <br />Main Level 42 <br /> <br />Types & Costs of Corner Guards <br />Thcre are thrce types of corner guards, stainless stecl, extrudcd aluminum and rigid vinyl. <br />All ofthc abovc arc 48 inches high. The cost comparisons on the threc types are: <br /> <br />Type <br />Stainless Stcel <br />Extruded Aluminum <br />Rigid Vinyl <br /> <br />Cost pcr 48 inch section <br />$23.90 <br />$16.50 <br />$13.50 <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Staffis rccommending that the typc of corncr guards in City Hall be stainless steel. <br />Stainless steel is thc most durable and long lasting of the three different types. It is also <br />thc casiest to install. Furthermore, Staff is rccommending that the 42 corners on thc main <br />lcvel bc donc this year at a cost not to cxceed $1,600.00, which includes Sales Tax and <br />installation matcrials. City Staff will do thc installation. Thc remaining 29 comers guards <br />in City Hall could bc installcd in 2003, dependant on Council approval. <br />
