1Ylcmorandum
September 4,2002
Page 2

.

In 1994 MSA looked into the feasibility of diverting the runoff into Karth Lake from Amble Drive to
Pleasant Drive in conjunction with reconstruction work on Amble Drive, It was determined that runoff
from Amble Dlive was only 8% of the total runoff into Karth Lake and it would cost approximately
$70,000 to divert the runoff, It was determined that this solution would not be cost effective,

In 1996 MSA looked into three different altematives for a permanent pumping system to draw down the
lake level during high water conditions, The three pumping station altematives consisted of:

Altemative 1- Forcemain to Wyncrest Court (Valentine Lake Storm System)
Altemati ve 2 - Forcemain to Femwood A venue (Valentine Lake Storm System)
Altemative 3 -Forcemain to Sunfish Lake

Each altemative was evaluated with the option of using a trash pump, submersible pump or submersible
pump with automatic controls, The following table outlines Options and Costs from MSA's analysis

Table 2 - Options From 1996 Feasibility Analysis by MSA

W nerest Court
$21,200
$31,100
$34,100

Destination
Fernwood
$35,400
$45,300
$48,300

I

Sunfish Lake
$41,200______~__~
$51,100
$54,100

From MSA's feasibility repOlt Altemative I with a trash pump was the recommended option

Current Conditions

A surface water elevation of 938,3 feet was measured on September 3, 2002, from a visual survey it
appears that all permanent structures i,e.... houses and garages are about 10 to 15 feet above the CltlTent
lake elevation and do not appear to be at any risk of flooding, Although no permanent structures appear
to be endangered there are numerous items such as private docks and landscaping submerged as well as
numerous mature trees that have water one to three feet up their trunks,

~
