Memo to City Council
Page 2 of2
November 25,2002

.

In essence, Mr. Nelson would provide the City with an easement along the northern border of his
property so the City could access an existing electrical pole. Since timing is an important factor
in the meter replacement, Mr. Nelson has also agreed to provide a temporary construction
easement in advance of the permanent utility easement. Unfortunately, this option necessitates
the removal of existing vegetation along the northern property border. Mr. Nelson has indicated
he is willing to bear this expense as well. However, this would remove the existing vegetation
on the site approximately five to six months earlier than previously anticipated. This may be
problematic from the neighbors' perspective.

Finally, this would increase the cost of the project by approximately $4,000. Similar to work
previously authorized, funds for this would come from the water fund.

Staff would recomm.end proceeding with the aforementioned alternative. Given the potential
neighborhood impact, staff wanted to solicit input from the Council prior to proceeding.

Requested Action

1. Provide direction on the electrical service to the meter pit located at County Road D and
Cleveland.
2. If the Council would like to pursue the proposed alternative, an additional $4,000 needs to be
allocated to the previously approved project.

.

.
