As
you may recall, the Guidant Masterplan calls for this segment of roadway to be vacated and
turned over to them for use in their campus circulation. In order to vacate the roadway, the City
must first remove the State Aid designation.

The segment ofFernwood Avenue is approximately 0.64 miles in length and represents
approximately 10% of our total of 6 miles of State Aid designated routes. In the interest of
maximizing our ability to draw State Aid funds, the City Engineer and City staff are currently
evaluating the designation of other City Streets to replace the Femwood Avenue mileage. Based
upon State Aid rules, only a few existing non-designated streets are eligible for State Aid
Designation. The two best options are the segment of Dunlap Street between Grey Fox and Red
Fox Road and the segment of G1enpaul Avenue between Cleveland Avenue and New Brighton
Road. We will be providing Council with a recommendation on the designation of State Aid
Status to one or more City streets in the near future, following discussions with MnDOT staff.

Recommendation
The City Engineer recommends that the Council Approve Resolution 02-61 removing State Aid
designation from Fernwood Avenue between County Road F and Guidant Drive North
(Cummings Park Drive).
