Metro Count Tube System
o The Sheriff's Office has a hose kit that is set up on the road in the
complaint areas. This Metro Count computer is used to determine
the following:
. Speed of traffic in the area
. Speeds are averaged out for each hour of the day
. Provides accurate numbers that are not influenced by the
drivers seeing the radar cart
. Direction of vehicles
. Determine what type of vehicles are speeding
. Car, motorcycle, busses, or large trucks

.

Advisory notices
o In many circumstances, the public has witnessed poor or
dangerous driving behavior and wishes to address this behavior
with the driver. In this Advisory Notice program, the witness calls
our office to report the driving behavior, along with the license plate
number and a description of the vehicle. Our CAOs record this
information and run a check on the registered owner
o If the information matches, an Advisory Notice is sent to the
registered owner.
o The CAOs also tour areas that have problems with non-moving
violations and issue an Advisory Notice on site,

.

. CAG Traffic Survey
o The CAOs have been trained to use the radar units, For certain
traffic complaints, we will have our CAOs run radar and record the
number of cars, speed, license plate, and description of the violator
vehicles.
o The violator vehicle information is then checked for matches and a
letter is sent to the registered owner.

Citations:
The Traffic car deputy writes nearly 1,200 citations per year. This program was developed due
to the need to protect the construction workers working along Highway 96. In this
first saturation done in 1999, at Highway 96 and Edgerton, the ten squads wrote 100
citations in four hours. The violators were issued tags for 12 to 30MPH over the
speed limits. The VIPS Unit currently does between four and six saturations per .
year.
