<br />. <br /> <br />7. <br /> <br />How will investigations be conducted? <br /> <br />The New Brighton Investigations unit will process all cases generated in <br />Arden Hills. The work of this unit, which is supervised by a Deputy Director, <br />is included in the "Operational Support" portion of the cost proposal. In order <br />to take on this additional work load without increasing staff, some of the non- <br />investigation work load currently being performed will be shifted to other <br />areas of the department. <br /> <br />8. Will there be any difficulty with regards to records management. <br /> <br />Ramsey County and the City of New Brighton currently use the same records <br />management systems. <br /> <br />9. <br /> <br />How will tobacco compliance checks be conducted? <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The City of New Brighton currently works with two organizations as part of <br />their compliance efforts. They received a $5000 grant from the Ramsey <br />County Tobacco Coalition which has been used for plain-clothes police <br />officers to monitor activity and work with youth. Some of this work has been <br />done with the Northwest Youth and Family Services. <br /> <br />New Brighton also works with the North Suburban Tobacco compliance <br />project. This organization collects data, supplies students to assist with the <br />compliance efforts, and provides training to tobacco vendors. <br /> <br />The City of New Brighton would conduct two tobacco compliance checks and <br />two alcohol compliance checks per year. The department is committed to <br />reducing jnvenile access to both alcohol and tobacco and has been successful <br />in both initiatives. <br /> <br />10. Explain the work of the Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPs) and Police <br />Reserves. <br /> <br />The VIPS are used primarily for park patrol and the graffiti program, The <br />police reserves will respond to many non-emergency calls such as barking <br />dogs. They also provide assistance at community and neighborhood events. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The VIPS conduct park patrols, do fingerprinting, help with community <br />events, watch homes when families are away at funerals, and help with <br />National Night Out and other crime prevention such as the e-mail alert <br />system. Police Reserves also help out by doing park patrols, conduct prisoner <br />transports, respond to low priority calls such as vehicle lockouts, direct traffic, <br />
