Water Trunk and Subtrunk Distribution Mains <br />A network of pipcs and related appurtenances usually in the size range of <br />ten inch (10") to sixteen inch (16"). These pipes are designed to carry <br />large volumes of water and intcrconnect various point sources of water <br />supply and storage reservoirs. Appurtenances to these facilities would <br />include valves and fittings, but not fire hydrants. <br /> <br />4. Water Main Laterals <br />A network of water pipes and related appurtenances usually six inches (6") <br />or eight inches (8 ") in size that are installed with approximately eight feet <br />(8') of ground cover to retard freezing and are designed to serve those <br />buildings abutting a given street or easement. Lateral mains are "looped" <br />wherever possible to balance pressures and to. provide water from at least <br />two (2) directions so that continuous water service is maintained for most <br />pcople during a water main break Looping of lateral mains eliminates <br />dead end watcr mains that caus varicty of distribution and stagnation <br />problems. Appurtenances to th . ities would include valves, fittings <br />and fire hydrants. <br /> <br />5. Water Main Buildin <br />These pipcs lead fro sometimes from trunk and subtrunk <br />mains) and serve indi mgs abutting thereon. The size of the . <br />service usually ran cs three-quarter inch (3/4") to six-inch (6"), <br />depending upo building served. The lines terminate at the <br />property line valve and are pluggcd until such time that the <br />building is co to the water system. <br /> <br /> <br />The pr <br />plumber <br /> <br /> <br />r must make arrangements with a licensed, bonded <br />e the service connection. <br /> <br />6. Water Connection Charge <br />This is a charge billed to all properties at the time of connection to the <br />water system. The charge is the individual property share of the cost of <br />the trunk, source, and storage facilities that make water service available. <br />The charge is based on thc size of the connection, plus the material and <br />installation cost of a watcr meter. The current charges are outlined in the <br />City Fee Schedule. Neither of these charges may be assessed against the <br />property. <br /> <br />7. Water Main Lateral Benefits <br />The benefit resulting to a property abutting or utilizing a watcr main where <br />a direct connection to that water main via a building service is reasonably <br />possible without additional lateral pipes. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />2004 Assessment Policy Manual - Page 16 <br />
