Council selects north or south side, sidewalk scope - November 29th, 2004 <br />. MnDOT selects project for cooperative agreement funding - January 14th, 2005 <br />. MnDOT rejects project for cooperative agreement funding - January 14, 2005 <br />o Project would be entirely funded by state aid funds in this case <br />. Final Design Period - February - April 2005 <br />. Bid Opening - June, 2005 <br />. Begin Construction - August, 2005 <br />. Complete Construction - Oclober, 2005 <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Staff recommends that the 6 fool wide sidewalk with 2 foot decorative slrip be constructed wesl <br />to Old Snelling in accordance with the City's Parks and Trails Master Plan and to enhance the <br />safety of pedestrians currently utilizing County Road E and those who will use it in the future, <br />Based upon our review of the north and south sides, we recommend that the sidewalk be <br />constructed along the south side due to lower cost, fewer residential impacts and to allow for <br />convenient connections to Freeway Park and Lindeys Park. The existing County Road E <br />interseclions with Old Snelling Avenue, TH 51 ramps at Freeway Park and Connelly Avenue all <br />provide slandardized, controlled safe crossings for pedestrians choosing to cross the corridor . <br />between north and south sides. <br /> <br />Recommend Council Action <br />Slaffrequests that Council provide direction on the following: <br /> <br />I) Whether the sidewalk improvements should extend west to Old Snelling and if so which <br />side of County Road E should the sidewalk be constructed. <br />2) Ifno sidewalk is to be built west ofTH 51, which side of the bridge should the sidewalk <br />improvements be conslructed on improved. <br /> <br />. <br />
