PROPOSED DRAINAGE/WAIER QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS

DRAINAGE OVERVIEW
The proposed improvements include a storm sewer system that will collect runoff from the
southern portion of Siems COUlt, Arden Place, Ridgewood Road and the northern part of Skiles
Lane. The storm system will consist of a combination of infiltration basins, storm sewer pipes
and small treatment ponds. The proposed neighborhood drainage system is organized in the
following manner:

· Northem Ridgewood Road area and majority of Ridgewood Court runoff will enter
storm sewer along Ridgewood Road and discharge into a 0.25-acre pond (N-Cell). The
proposed system would also collect a portion of the flow along Lake Johanna Boulevard
between Old Snelling Avenue and Ridgewood Road.
· Ridgewood Road area adjacent to the wetland will flow into infiltration basins
constlUcted along the existing wetland.
. N orthem portion of Siems Court will enter storm sewer along Siems Court and flow into
the ditch along Lake Johanna Boulevard.
· Southern portion of Siems Court area, Arden Place (from Siems to Ridgewood Rd), the
backyards adjacent to Arden Place will flow into a 0.15-acre pond (S I-Cell) constructed
in the wetland near existing Lift Station 4.
. Arden Place runoff and the northern portion of Skiles Lane will flow down Arden Place
in storm sewer pipe and discharge into a 0.1 O-acre pond (52-Cell) constructed in the
wetland.
· The southern portion of Skiles Lane will flow into an infiltration basin at Skiles Lane
and Old Snelling.

Infiltration basins are included in a few select areas throughout the neighborhood for water
quality purposes. The basins will facilitate infiltration and nutrient removal throughOllt the
neighborhood. In addition they will decrease the peak flows in down stream water bodies and
will facilitate groundwater recharge and overall water quality within the neighborhood.
Infiltration basins are proposed in strategic areas that have a relatively flat topography and within
efficient distance along the drainage route towards the wetland. The infiltration basins proposed
along Old Snelling are included in this report to describe the overall drainage plan but will be
constructed as part of the proposed reconstlUction of Snelling Avenue (planned for 2008 in CIP).
The estimated construction costs include landscape plantings for these areas and ponding areas.
City staff, the Beach Club Association, or resident gardening clubs may accomplish maintenance
of plantings within the pond areas and infiltration basins.

The existing runoff area to the wetland is approximately 23 acres. The proposed runoff area to
the wetland will increase by 3 acres to 26 acres due to the storm sewer system that will be
collecting additional runoff. The additional runoff will include ditch flow along Lake Johanna
Boulevard and the southem portion of Siems COUlt.

l'RS

11
