PROPOSED UTILITY IMPROVEMENTS

II

SANITARY SEWER IMPROVEMENTS
Proposed improvements include replacing the sanitary force main from Lift Station #3 and from
Lift Station #4. Due to the cOlTosi ve nature of area soils, age and material of the force main we
anticipate that the existing condition of the pipe is fair to poor. The forcemain will be replaced
with a 6" PVC or HDPE pipe. Exhibit A7 illustrates the proposed Sanitary Sewer Improvements.

Each sanitary manhole will be inspected during the final design phase of the project to determine
its condition. Manholes that appear to be structurally deficient will be included for repairs and
lor reconstruction. Manholes with infiltrating ground water will be identified to be sealed as a
part of future sanitary sewer rehabilitation work.

W A TERMAIN IJVIPROVE'VIENTS
Proposed improvements include the replacement of all hydrants and gate valves within the
neighborhood. Due to corrosive soils, the age of the valves and past expelience in similar soil
conditions the valves have often become inoperable and need to be replaced. Due to recent
water main breaks along Arden Place the entire segment of watermain and house services along
Arden Place is proposed to be replaced with high strength 8" PVC watermain.

Watennain Option 1: Replace All Existing Watermain The existing 6" and 8" cast iron
pipe and would he replaced with high strength 6" and 8" PVc. Due to the cOlTosive
nature of the soils and based on past experience in similar soil conditions, it is possible
that the cxisting watermain is nearing its useful life in several areas of the neighborhood
beyond the breaks recently expClienced along Arden Place. This option would provide
new life expectancy for the watermain within the neighborhood and reduce or eliminate
the likelihood of ongoing spot repairs throughout the neighborhood over the next 50
years. The additional cost to replace watermain and services along Siems Court,
Ridgewood Road and Skiles Lane is approximately $184,000. Exhibit A8 illustrates the
proposed waterrnain improvements.

PRIVATE UTILITIES
Private utility companies have been notified of the extent and proposed schedule of the project.
They will be required to relocate any of their lltilities that conflict with City uti Iities or roadway
improvements proposed in the project. A meeting will be held with the private utility companies
to discuss the proposed project and this may result in private utility upgrades. Although ptivate
utility upgrades and modifications may be done in conjunction with this proposed project they
would not be installed as part of this proposed project. Based upon our review of the
neighborhood to date we do not anticipate significant private utility impacts. However if large
amounts of watermain are replaced, some gas lines will likely need relocation or replacement.

URS

1+
