OVERVIEW OF NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE II <br />Institutional Resources <br />The Campus Technologies Department has been reorganized, the <br />campus has been wired for network access, number of computers has <br />increased substantially, and support staff has been increased to reflect <br />the increases. <br />Academic Programs <br />Two majors were combined, ten new majors were added, and eight <br />minors were added. Majors that were added include: Art Education, <br />Finance, International Business, Children's Ministries, Social Studies <br />Education, English as a Second Language, Spanish, Biology and His- <br />tory. <br />In 1996, the Board of Trustees voted to convert to a semester based cal- <br />endar, beginning in 1999. <br />Non -Traditional Programs <br />FOCUS and Center for Distance Education were established. FOCUS <br />was designed to meet the needs of working students who have com- <br />pleted approximately two years of college. Five majors are currently <br />offered. <br />The Center for Distance Education enables students to complete col- <br />lege coursework for credit through instructional packets, audio tapes, <br />video tapes and the Internet. Currently, one major is offered. <br />Student Support Services <br />In 1993, the ALPHA Center was established to provide services for stu- <br />dents academically at risk, to assist students to meet their academic <br />goals, and as a site for students who need alternative forms of testing. <br />In 1993, the College established the office of Racial and Ethnic Diver- <br />sity on Campus (REDOC) to create a more supportive environment for <br />diversity. <br />In 1998, the College established the Disabilities Office of Support Ser- <br />vices (DOSS) to better serve students with special needs. <br />Northwestern College Radio <br />Three additional stations have been added, including Sarasota, Florida; <br />Madison, Wisconsin; and Arnold / Sacramento, California. <br />Northwestern College's Market Position <br />Northwestern College identifies itself as a private Christian College of <br />the Bible, Art and Sciences, and Professional Education.
