PLANNING ISSUES & ANALYSES III
Bible 1. Faculty 10 FT, 3 PT in department; 10-12 adjunct; 5-6 work study.
2. Integrating core for all academic disciplines: "Hub".
3. Storage: articles, computer hardware, most offices have closets.
4. Classroom presentations mostly 'Power Point" type; some over-
head.
5. Large classrooms hard to come by; need space for 40-50; 30 sections
of Freshman, 10 upper division. Goal for Bible languages is 20-25
students / 6 workstations, especially in Language.
6. Pedagogy: straight ahead lecture one of several methods.
Business & Accounting 1. Currently 225 students; expect 250 in next 5-10 years. Second larg-
est department.
2. Feels pinch for classrooms. (This is part of total campus aggregate
need for generic classrooms.)
3. Feels need for one computer lab.
4. If student population increases to 250, would need one more full-
time faculty and office.
5. Department Head needs administrative assistant; area for same.
6. Intro to Marketing class for 50 people in very poor classroom, but
only once every semester or so.
Christian Education 1. Currently 4 faculty, will add 2.
2. Field experience — need to add one administrative assistant
Theatre 1. Further pressure if Theatre minor/ major ever offered; synergy with
Music programs? Maranatha operations?
2. Several year calendar for Maranatha events must be meshed with
Theatre academic needs.
3. Need to balance academic needs with event needs – integration of
two entities? Continue to assess conflicts between Theatre instruc-
tional lab needs versus Maranatha performance needs. (schedules,
set up times required for different types of events, type of person-
nel, student workers, etc.). Pressure for building stage sets and the-
atre students' practice time are in opposition to "road house" style
operation of Maranatha.
4. Need for Rehearsal Hall (teaching space).
5. Conflict of training and education between Theatre Department
trained stage personnel and Maranatha trained personnel. If The-
atre were to become minor, could Theatre department train Mara-
natha personnel?
6. Theatre Scenery Workshop / Storage out -building. It seems that this
does not totally solve Maranatha conflict – need for co -location of
stage sets and rehearsal time. (Separate issues? Provides instruc-
tional lab for teaching stage set building, but duplication of efforts?
Confirm issues.)
7. Planning for types of scenery: permanent (less flexible and less
expensive), temporary, movable/reps (more flexible, but more
NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS PAGE 3.6
