PLANNING ISSUES & ANALYSES III
Admissions .1. "Front Door" to College for prospective students. Layout with split
functions adds to ambiguity. Narrow space block available aggra-
vates potential layout.
2. Consider consolidation of "Student/ Support Services" into single
area for "One Stop Shopping"; needs to be near Admin; could add
to visibility to all commonly located entities; may see efficiency of
staff; vacated Radio Station space? Accessibility could be an issue.
3. Space concerns appear to result mostly due to space layout and
equipment issues; effective layout may not solve all space prob-
lems. Assess cost of new equipment (highly effective, customized
work stations) against major remodeling. Equipment can be relo-
cated multiple times more easily.
4. Need to handle a multitude of information media intensifies space
need. (electronic data, hard copy data, hard copy signatures [Fed
loans, etc.], mail, etc.) Need to handle "semi -accessible" (not ready
for archive storage) records an issue.
5. More storage space (or more efficient storage space?) desired. Con-
sider'Compact Storage' as part of solution?
Financial Aid 1. No major issues; not ideal, but could be improved.
2. Some cubicles are quite small for specific job functions; some staff
should be in enclosed space. (confidentiality)
3. Storage on 3rd floor; storage requirements are now 3 years instead
of previous 5 year.
4. Waiting area currently seats 3, could use 5 (peak is 6-8).
5. Discussed desire for co -locating Student Accounts, Admissions, Stu-
dent Records and Financial Aid; could use common work study.
Career Development 1. Staff:
Director
Employer Relations Specialist
Office Manager
Work Study (2 @ one time; total 3) (secure personal items storage)
Academic Affairs Internship Coordinator (to be added)
2. Current space size is roughly 15 x 25 (510 SF)
Storage upstairs in attic (7 x 15±) used for grad school booklets,
handouts, etc. Access 1— 3 times per day (???)
3. Equipment:
TV/ VCR (needs clear viewing angle)
Projector
Photocopy machine
Color laser printer
Scanner
Fax machine
Office supplies cabinet
4. Space is tight; student access limited to 15 hours a week; otherwise
students must go to Library, then CD staff unable to advise.
NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS PAGE 3.13
