APPENDIX 0 C' <br />students are registered for something after 3 p.m. <br />Square footage calculations for classrooms are based on <br />15 square feet per student and the space utilization study <br />uses a different square footage number, but their findings <br />are very close. <br />FT faculty teaches approximately 81% of courses - This <br />number impacts facility offices. <br />General Purpose Classroom Space Needs: <br />Northwestern has 27 general purpose classrooms available <br />during the 8 period day. Several classrooms have features <br />that make thein less desirable for classrooms. The <br />carousels include 1/5th of our classroom space and they <br />were not designed to be classroom and N136 used to <br />be a storeroom. The student center classrooms were not <br />included in this report because they just starting using <br />them last summer. The student center classrooms are <br />included in the space study done by Larry Page. <br />Conclusion: <br />13, 300 Sq. ft is needed for general purpose classrooms. <br />NWC could get more space by decking Riley or Nazareth <br />infill. <br />General Discussion on FTE: <br />There was discussion about using a different FTE number <br />and how it would affect the College. If we cut back <br />on FTE it would out costs, but there are other items to <br />consider. Jerry Bouma expressed the need for cubic feet of <br />a room in order to fit bigger instruments into a room. <br />Long-range planning committee - There is no long-range <br />planning committee anymore. The long-range plan was <br />presented to everyone, but the final draft never was <br />approved. <br />The decisions of this committee will have a big impact <br />on the next campaign. <br />3. Space Utilization Study by Partners & Sirny - Executive <br />Summarv: <br />Phil gave an overview of the space study done by Larry <br />Page. Larry was charged to tell us where the College is <br />short on space (office, classrooms, etc). - <br />The study found that the office size is actually larger than <br />industry standard but we are not going to change them. <br />The study supported the fact that there are not enough <br />facilities to accommodate our needs. Phil recommended <br />utilizing Larry Page to help us finish the report. It was <br />decided that Larry should come to the next meeting.
