i <br />APPENDIX 0 C <br />Discussion: <br />The concern arose that Riley does not have an elevator and <br />some students are not able to get to the second floor. Phil <br />commented that the Riley building was grand -fathered in and <br />if there is any major remodeling done to the building an <br />elevator would have to be installed. The dark room door in <br />the Art lab will be made handicap accessible to accommodate <br />students needs. <br />3. Alternative Education handout: <br />Dr. Tim Tomlinson, Dean of Alternative Education gave his <br />report and pointed out the following items. <br />Tim gave a short overview of the programs: <br />FOCUS - on campus classes in the evenings <br />Pathways Project - on and off campus classes in the <br />evening <br />Distance Education - off campus classes <br />Personal Enrichment - classes meet at night and <br />weekends on campus <br />Urban Bible Institute - no space needs <br />MacLaurin Institute - on site at the U of M <br />Quito campus - Ecuador <br />Graduate program - this is not a reality yet, but would <br />need classrooms and administrative offices <br />There will be a greater need in the next 15 years for <br />office space, classroom space and production area. The <br />production area would be use for video conferencing and <br />media projects. <br />Some of the projected space needs could be located off <br />campus, but not all of it. <br />There is also an indirect space need that would put more <br />pressure on other areas on campus such as information <br />technologies, financial aid, business office, admissions and <br />student development. <br />Discussion: Larry bought up a concern for the space need of <br />the graduate program. Tim explained the graduate programs <br />would be similar to Capella University. Classes would be over <br />the internet with residential requirements in the summer time, <br />which would need to be worked out with Event Services. <br />4. Student Development Handout: <br />Monica Groves, Dean of Student Development gave her report <br />and pointed out the following items. <br />Using the 1600 FTE number there would be 1708 students <br />enrolled by fall of 2005.
