APPENDIX C
The newly created commuter lounge has helped. Monica feels
that our campus is not very welcoming to commuters due to
not having enough lounge space, not enough lockers and over
crowding in Nazareth Cafe.
There is not a good location for students to socialize during
the day. Students have been using the Nazareth Cafe and the
211d floor of Nazareth Hall.
An ideal dining area would consist of being brightly lighted,
noise reduction, bigger dish return area and better entry to
the cafeteria to eliminate theft problems.
Discussion: Larry mentioned that the lounge space and office
space issues are consistent with what he found.
5. Dormitories Handout:
Phil Lacher, AVP of Physical Plant/Aux. Services gave his
report on the following items.
We are beyond the capacity in housing. The College places
4 freshman to a room to adhere to the College's policy of
housing students 20 year of age and younger.
The actual percent to student housing to FTE is 991 + 41 =
1,032 student housed which is 69%
The College will need to invest $13,000 to make the Snelling
Terrace pool available to the students.
There are no other buildings that are within walking distance
to the College. The college was blessed to have the
opportunity to buy South, Southeast and Snelling Terrace.
There are a couple of medical buildings by Snelling Terrace
but the owners of one of the building do not want to sell
to NWC at this time.
The College's Rcseville Campus PUD (plan unit development)
expires August 1, 2001. Phil is currently working with the
city on our options.
Parking is a big issue. The total number of parking
spaces is 1,840. The back area of Riley could be expanded
to add 85 more parking spaces but it won't solve the
current problem.
Discussion:
Discussed limiting freshman cars on campus and that the
Cabinet and Board would make the final decision. Larry
mentioned that limiting parking at colleges is -very common.
The committee was interested in finding more- information on
parking fees and parking lot maintenance.
Note: The committee would like to make a recommendation
about limiting parking in their report.
Note: Public/private funding should be explored.
6. Athletics Handout: Matt Hill, Athletic Director gave his
report on the following items. He currently has 5 areas
NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS APP C.6
