Maranatha stage - Scheduling for concerts and rehearsals are <br />difficult. Rehearsals usually take place the day prior to the <br />concert causing the stage to be reset for chapel the next day <br />and then again reset for the concert. <br />There is room for 1600 students in the auditorium. <br />The Edge is a student led worship discipleship group. The <br />Edge would prefer to be in the auditorium but it is moved <br />to Nazareth chapel for 10 weeks out of the year because of <br />scheduling conflicts. The Nazareth chapel is not sufficient for <br />setup and the number of students that attend. <br />Nazareth Chapel is in such a high demand between music <br />classes, rehearsals during the week and weddings on <br />weekends. The college could schedule fewer weddings if <br />musical performances increased during the school year. One <br />option would be not to schedule weddings during the school <br />year but only during breaks. <br />The idea was brought up for a separate chapel building. <br />The problem is where to put it. <br />Theater- There is a huge scheduling problem for drama <br />vignettes rehearsals. A scene -shop is being built by the <br />ball field. <br />Discussion: <br />Discussed the idea of using the Erickson center for chapel. <br />Jane mentioned that is takes two days to set up the chairs on <br />the floor with the bleachers pulled out to seat 2300 people for <br />graduation day. Students may have a problem associating it as <br />chapel verses a place for athletics. <br />4. Library Handout: <br />Dale Solberg, Director of Library Services gave his report. <br />It has been 8 academic years since moving into the <br />Berntsen building. <br />We have found there isn't nearly enough space for growth. <br />We have moved very aggressively into web-based/electronic <br />formats but the need for the traditional format has not <br />lessened. <br />A 20 -year growth capacity was determined when the library <br />was built in 1992, however the stacks are now at, and in <br />some areas, over capacity. <br />There is a safety concern when filling the stack full and <br />the space between the stacks has also changed to 42 inches. <br />The lights on the ceiling would have to be changed if the <br />stacks were moved. <br />In 1999, we added Cooperating Libraries in Consortium <br />(CLIC) which allows online and physical access to the <br />collections of 13 other libraries. <br />In 2000, the Elmer Anderson Library at the University <br />of Minnesota became available for permanent storage of <br />journals. <br />There is a need for at least 10 public workstations <br />NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS APP C.10 <br />
