APPENDIX 0 C <br />Hal mentioned the centennial campaign would be divided into 2 <br />phases. The first phase will include the media building, so the <br />committee will not have to rush to complete their report. <br />Music Department Handout: <br />Gerry Bouma presented adding a wing to the Fine Arts <br />building. <br />The ceiling in the instrumental rehearsal room will need to <br />be higher than normal. <br />The choral rehearsal room could also be used as a small <br />recital room if needed. The rehearsal rooms are mostly <br />used in the afternoon. <br />The classrooms in the new wing addition could be also <br />be used for general-purpose classes since they would not <br />be used all the time. <br />It would cost $178,000 to install 7 new practice rooms <br />in the new wing. <br />The top floor of the wing would have studio/office space <br />for teachers. <br />It would cost $38,535 to relocate the present practice rooms <br />to the Nazareth gym. <br />- The College would be responsible to remove the fire <br />sprinklers and have the Nazareth floor ready for the <br />practice rooms. <br />- The company would provide a supervisor for 10 days, but <br />the College would have to provide 10 people and trucks <br />to move the units. <br />Discussion: <br />If this wing was added, the music office could evacuate their <br />present area leaving it open for the art department. <br />Jane mentioned there could be problems fitting 1700 students <br />in the auditorium. Usually, during the first month of <br />school, students have to sit on the floor for chapel in <br />the auditorium. A closed circuit overflow area could be <br />set up for chapel, but the equipment would need to be <br />purchased. <br />The space above the event services area could be made into <br />offices for event services if the new wing is built. <br />There was concern that there is not an elevator in the <br />wing proposal. <br />Hal mentioned storage space is also a high concern for <br />departments. <br />Media Building Ideas: <br />Susan mentioned her ideas for the new media building. <br />- 3 classrooms for 20 - 25 students with tables for the <br />NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS APP C.15 <br />
