APPENDIX E C
going forward, as well.
When the Community Life Center is built on the Mall area,
the tunnel between Riley and Naz would be cut in half.
These changes would encompass the HVAC changes. A lengthy
discussion took place regarding the current tunnels on campus
and do we have a need for additional tunnels in some areas?
How much do the students really use the tunnels? Larry
noted that tunnels are very costly to do. Asa mentioned the
concern we currently have with the tunnels involving mold
and water issues. Larry mentioned the mold issue and how
that is an increasing possibility of lawsuits. The committee
had mixed feelings on the tunnels around the Mall area. Hal
Miller recommend if anything, a tunnel from the dorm end to
the academic end of campus. Hal recommended that during
the final plan design a decision be made about the pathways
between the buildings and that we should stay consistent in
our look. It is imperative to use the current below ground
areas as to help keep the campus from looking crowded. Hal
recommended that we list the pros and cons of the tunnels
in our report.
Doug Schroeder mentioned the garage for the vans in the
Riley building. Doug would expect those garages to be able
to be remodeled sometime in the future and the vans moved
elsewhere.
Utility issues were discussed. They should be looked at when
we get to that point in the plan. Larry recommended that we
look at keeping the image of the College as a market point and
invest our money there instead.
Larry Page's closing comment regarding the proposed plan is to
keep in mind the mission of the college.
The committee reviewed the Preliminary Recommendation Draft
report for the items that were added from the last CMP
meeting: Item #7, 10 C, 11E, 11F, 12F, 20, 22, 27, 32, 33,
34, 41, 43, 52, 53, and 55.
Changes made or additional additions to the Preliminary
Recommendation Draft Report:
Confirm the property lines and the acreage.
Historical Preservation..... the city process would involve
zoning; Institutional zone vs. the PUD.
The annex issue will need to be addressed. This would
also be an added recommendation.
12I State building codes and ADA codes are slightly different
dealing with handicap. Environmental buildings was
explained by Larry; certification process. Recommend that
we consider these when planning.
NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS APP C.26
