• The Rice Creek Canoe Route is in implementation process. The creek was <br /> made navigable by removing existing barriers. Working with the Rice Creek <br /> Watershed District, Anoka County and the National Park Service to improve <br /> access and information. <br /> • The White Bear Lake boat access improvements were reviewed but work has <br /> been delayed due to watershed issues. Construction will take place in 2009. <br /> • The results of the Keller Golf Course pre-design studies will be brought before <br /> the County Board at a workshop on February 24, 2009. <br /> • Currently investigating title issues at an alternate site on Lake Gervais to provide <br /> a new access for ice fishing. The current ice access has been closed due to tree <br /> and turf damage caused by ice fishermen driving across park land. <br /> • Reviewed and made recommendations on the Snail Lake Marsh improvements. <br /> The recommendations will be brought to the City of Shoreview for review. <br /> • The funding to improve the warehouse building on the Rice Creek Corridor for a <br /> joint use facility with the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission was vetoed by <br /> the Governor in the 2008 Bonding Bill. This issue will be brought before the <br /> legislature in the future. <br /> • Reviewed Destination for Discovery project at Tamarack Nature Center. The <br /> next step is to review the construction documents for the nature play area and <br /> children's garden. <br /> • Reviewed and recommended adoption of the Natural Resource Management <br /> Plan which was adopted by the County Board in September 2008. <br /> • Deer management has been an ongoing effort since 1990. A total of 108 deer <br /> were removed in 2008. <br /> • The 2006-2008 State of the Parks Report was presented to the County Board. <br /> • Chair Straumann requested that staff prepare a draft Commission Work Program <br /> that incorporates activities identified in the Department's 2008 Work Program. <br /> 2010-2015 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM <br /> Mr. Mack reviewed the 2010-2015 Capital Improvement Program with the Parks and <br /> Recreation Commission. The program consists of capital asset management items, <br /> items that have an expected life of 10 years or more and a cost of$50,000 or more; <br /> redevelopment projects and new developments.
