PARKS, TRAILS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
March 17, 2009
Chair Peck asked when the event was held in the past. Ms. Olson stated it was normally held in
June but could be changed if desired.
Mr. Straumann questioned if this event could be planned in three months for 2009. Ms. Olson
indicated the subcommittee being formed would plan the event for 2010 as it was not in the
budget for 2009.
Mr. Messerly suggested the event be held early August of 2010 to improve chances the weather
would cooperate. Ms. Olson agreed with this suggestion and asked for the members within the
PTRC to contact her via email if they were interested in serving on this subcommittee. She
explained the group would be expected to meet once monthly to assist in the planning of
Celebrating Arden Hills.
Ms. Hilgers and Chair Peck indicated they would be interested in serving on the subcommittee.
Ms. Olson thanked these members for their interest and stated she would also seek additional
members through the monthly newsletter.
F. Community Clean Up Event Discussion
Ms. Olson stated she received an email from Arden Hall (Northwestern College) stating they are
interested in helping the City with a clean up event at Tony Schmidt Park. She indicated there
were funds available in the budget to provide snacks and/or beverages.
Chair Peck indicated that the County would be supplying plastic bags for the clean-up, but
questioned if a date had been selected for the event. Chair Peck stated April 18, 2009 was the
traditional Ramsey County clean-up event date.
5. REPORTS
A. Report from the City Council
Council Liaison Holmes gave an update on the Council actions from the past few meetings. She
indicated the Council was not ready to stop the Safe Routes to School project even though it
g
came in over budget. She indicated the amounts were being reviewed as this was an important
trail segment.
Council Liaison Holmes indicated the City has a new Deputy Clerk, Rebecca Brazys along with
a new public works gentleman named Todd Hansen. She explained the Council authorized staff
to go out for bids for the Glen Arden pavement program.
Council Liaison Holmes stated the Council discussed the proposed Walgreens at Arden Plaza at
the March 16th meeting.
