ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL-July 13, 2009 21
Councilmember Holmes stated that if Walgreen's was agreeable to the
Chanhassen building concept then they may not object to this change with the
Arden Hills building.
City Planner Beekman stated that each of the Walgreen's signs is 33 square feet,
the pharmacy signs are 18 square feet and the photo signs are 10 square feet each.
Councilmember Holmes asked if the monument sign was 33 square feet as well.
City Planner Beekman stated that this was correct and this is calculated separately.
MOTION: Councilmember Holden moved and Councilmember Grant
seconded a motion to add Condition 23, to read that the square footage
for signs on building one is limited to 99 square feet.
Councilmember Holden clarified that this would reflect what the Chanhassen
Walgreen's building has for signage.
City Administrator Moorse asked is the bell tower would be considered wall
signage.
City Planner Beekman stated that this is window signage and is regulated
differently than wall signage.
Councilmember Holmes asked about the exit sign located at the drive thru.
City Planner Beekman stated that this is considered an ancillary sign or directional
sign and is not counted as part of the wall signage.
Mayor Harpstead stated that the total square footage allowed for the structures
proposed would be 320 square feet if building three had three tenants. This
condition would limit the amount of signage to 180 square feet total.
City Planner Beekman recommended that the language for Condition 23 limit the
sign square footage for building one to 99 square feet and that the remaining
buildings in Phase I meet the sign code.
Councilmember Holmes stated that building three had not been discussed.
Mayor Harpstead clarified that the current motion did not change the 93 square
feet wall signage limit for building three. He asked City Planner Beekman if there
was a condition that dealt with signage.
