ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—March 29, 2010 5
7.A. Award the Cummings Park Irrigation Installment to Village Plumbing, Inc. in the Amount
of$1,616.00 for the Plumbing Installation; Anderson Irrigation, Inc. in the Amount of
$13,867.75 for the Irrigation; Plus an Additional Amount of$850.00 for a City-Purchased
Water Meter. Total Project Cost Not to Exceed$16,333.75. (continued)
Parks and Recreation Manager Olson stated that the bid was good for thirty days from the date
received and she received it two weeks ago.
Councilmember Holden stated she is in favor of this project. The City's annual Easter Egg Hunt
is held in this park and it does not look as nice as it should. She asked how much more it would
cost the City to get this park to a good standard where it is worth having the irrigation in place.
She clarified that this park has not been fertilized for a number of years.
Parks and Recreation Manager Olson stated a fertilization estimate without having the results
of the soil sample would be about $3,263 per field per year and there are two fields at Cummings
Park. The total would be a little more than $6,000 per year. This figure is with City Staff doing _
all the fertilizing. The labor cost includes putting down the fertilization, aerating, mowing, and
weed control
Councilmember Holden asked how the grass on the hill that goes down to the baseball field,
would be maintained in the park because of the grade of the hill. -
Parks and Recreation Manager Olson stated the entire park would be aerated and fertilized.
The irrigation zone map being presented was the most comprehensive that the City could get.
With the exception of the hockey area, the intention is to maintain the hill the same as the rest of
the park. The City will aerate and fertilize this area.
Councilmember Holden asked if this area would be watered as well. She also asked if grass
seed was included in the fertilization estimates.
Parks and Recreation Manager Olson stated grass seed was included in the fertilization
estimates.
Public Works Director Greg Hoag clarified that the hill area will not have irrigation but the City
could utilize the sprinkler system it has used in the past for this area when it is needed or the City
could add additional irrigation to this area.
Councilmember Holden asked when the Council would see a maintenance schedule for all the
parks.
Public Works Director Hoag stated Staff is currently working on a draft and this will be brought
to the Council for discussion.
Parks and Recreation Manager Olson clarified the maintenance schedule could be brought to
the next City Council work session for review.
