Sanitary Sewer Repair— Venus Avenue Easement(continued) <br /> Councilmember Grant asked how the contractor has been performing on the Elmer L. Andersen - <br /> trail. <br /> Civil Engineer Giga felt the contractor was good to work with and has been doing a nice job on <br /> the trail. All the proper erosion control was in place and all the necessary paperwork has been <br /> given to staff. <br /> Councilmember Grant questioned if the contractor's bid included the tree removal as the bid <br /> came in quite a bit lower than the two other bids. <br /> Civil Engineer Giga stated the tree removal was explained in detail and she was very pleased <br /> with the quote. The City would see a big savings as the contractor was already there on site. <br /> Mayor Harpstead asked when the work would be completed. <br /> Civil Engineer Giga indicated the work was to be finished before the trail is paved. <br /> Councilmember Holden stated she was in favor of removing the cottonwood trees. She - <br /> suggested spending$1,000 on additional trees to be planted in this area. <br /> Councilmember McClung agreed to support the tree removal and would be in favor of <br /> supplemental plantings to assist in re-growing this area. <br /> Councilmember Grant indicated there were a number of cottonwood trees in this area and only a <br /> few would be removed. He was in favor of removing the trees. <br /> MOTION: Councilmember Grant moved and Councilmember Holden seconded a motion <br /> to approve the construction of a sanitary sewer line in the Venus Avenue <br /> easement with removal of the cottonwood trees at a cost not to exceed $4,700. <br /> Councilmember Holmes stated she was in favor of keeping the trees as they were at the trailhead <br /> and would impact the view. She felt the trees were extremely unique and natural. <br /> The motion carried on a 4—1 vote. <br /> Ayes-Harpstead,Holden, Grant, McClung <br /> Nays-Holmes <br /> MOTION: Councilmember McClung moved and Mayor Harpstead seconded a motion to <br /> authorize staff to add supplemental plantings after the sewer work was <br /> complete in an amount not to exceed $1,500 as an increment to the annual <br /> bud et. <br />
