MEMO <br /> DATE April 3, 1997 <br /> TO Honorable Mayor and Council <br /> FROM Jim March <br /> RE Garbage Contract <br /> In the last week, I have met with Greg Hellings to discuss <br /> drafting a specifications document that would allow us to issue a <br /> request for proposals from other waste haulers. I have also met <br /> with representatives from United Waste in regards to our plans to <br /> request proposals for garbage service based on a new contract. <br /> United Waste is very interested, as are others, in providing the <br /> City with a bid for services. <br /> As we have discussed previously, the current contract with United <br /> Waste expires on May 8, 1997. They have indicated a willingness <br /> to extend the contract for whatever period of time the City so <br /> desires until we feel comfortable that we have specifications; <br /> that will allow all interested to bid on an even proposal. <br /> At the meeting on Wednesday evening, I will know what time period <br /> may be required for requesting an extension to the contract. We <br /> want to make sure that if a different waste hauling firm is <br /> selected that we allow adequate time for a transition, so that <br /> residents are not inconvenienced by a disruption in services. <br />
