These grates are primarily designed to collect <br /> debris in the drainage way and prevent it from entering the rivers and lakes. The grates <br /> also aid in preventing children from entering the storm pipe. <br /> The grates require more maintenance to keep the openings clear of debris especially <br /> during the spring and fall months. In larger storm pipes the grates would also reduce the <br /> possibility of a smaller child from falling from the top onto the bottom of the pipe. <br /> The cost to install grates on Brian Drive would be $5,000.00 and Old Mill Road would be <br /> $7,000.00. These are ballpark figures utilizing city forces installing the grates. Please let <br /> me know if follow -up action is required on this issue. <br />
