Gather Available Traffic Volume Data
The traffic volume data win fall into three categOIies, current counts, historicaJ. data. and
future projections. Each of the agencies should provide aU of its existing traffic volume
infonnation to a single source. For the larger cities, this can be the current listing of
MlD1icipal State Aid counts along with any supp1cmcntal counts made as part of special
studies not included in Item No. 4 above. The counties would provide County State Aid
Highway counts as well as any special counts. Mn/DOT hu routine traffic counts and the
information is generally published on Metro Series maps. Additional counts at MnJDOT
may have been made for special studies or routine purposes. Various reportS also have
special c:ounts taken.

Each of tho agencios should collect its existing CUlI'Cnt count data. and submit it to a single
agency for compilation. It is suggested that MnIDOT, who already owns much of the data
and base mapping. could utilize the Metro Series maps and enter the data. ~ived from 1be
participating agencies. This would then provide a single map with current traffic volume
infoImation.

Historical data also needs to be collected by the individual agencies. This can consist
primarlly of past MSA or CSAH count maps which go back a number of years. MnlDOT's
Metro Series traffic map8 wilT also provide significant information. SEH has already
compiled volume trend infonnation at many locations In the area and will volunteer to
collect the historical data and tabulate specific locations to supplement that already
completed. SEll will also provide an index of all collected data.

Future traffic volumes will come from two sources. the regional model which CWTBDtly
exists and the special studies. Since there will be a considerablo amO\D\t of work done to
modify the model to reflect changes in the system and to reflect on land uses, it is
suggested that a detailed model be run for the area system based OD a geographic area
defined in Item No. 2 above. The custodian of the library should also identify the traffic
voh,une forecasts which are available in the existing studies. These could be copied and
ultimately provided to the agoTl(lY or group wbichwill be malring the fmal projections.

6. Gather Land Use O~tl
Comprehensive plans from each of the fiw participating local agencies should be obtained.
and sent to a single source, such as the City of Hugo. Oenemlland uses have alIeady been
compiled on a metro-wIde map and SEE: has a copy. The land uses are somewhatgenera1
and. the individual comprehensive plans can be copied so the details of land use in each of
the ccmmunities is more readily available. This again is primarily a librarian task.
