Goodrich, along with the census <br />reports at City HaI~ the population of Centerville was recorded <br />as follows: <br /> <br />1860 351 1900 1,175 <br />1870 687 1980 734 <br />1880 876 1990 1,633 <br />1890 1,134 2000 3,202 <br /> <br />In the October 6, 1949 edition of the Anob Herald, they <br />wrote about the mail being delivered by stagecoach (how did <br />they survive without e-mail!); Eugene Pelletier was the first white <br />child born in Centerville; and Centerville was referred to as "a <br />neat little town in a beautiful location. Here we are 5 I years <br />later and that last comment stills remains true today! <br />In a 1976 edition of the St. Paul Pioneer Dispatch, Center- <br />ville's Mayor Walter Pracher was the only full-time farmer in the <br />City. According to the newspaper, he stated that as prosperous <br />farming disappeared, Centerville's businesses did too. It was also <br />published that Pracher said "_.businesswise, the town had gone <br />backward, that residents tend to want the City to stay the way it <br />is and didn't want it to grow." <br />On Wednesday, May 23, 195 I Centerville hosted a Fire- <br />men's Day Celebration. This was In honor of the community's <br />newly organized fire department. The Celebration included a <br />parade, dance, band music, pony rides and a queen coronation <br />ceremony at the Twin Lakes Country Club (now Waterworks). <br />Sharon Pelletier, 14 year old daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Henry <br />Pelletier received her crown and title of Centerville Fire Queen. <br />The Anob County Historical Society is filled with an abun- <br />dance of historical information of Centerville.
