Navin
Chair, Parks & Rec.

At the recent November 22 City
Council meeting, the council endorsed
a $30,000 increase in the year 2000
budget for Parks & Rec. The Parks &
Rec. committee observed that while
the historical $20,000 budget provided
minimum funds for operating, the time
is now to take proactive steps to
provide the citizens of Centerville the
best in city resources.
At the meeting, Parks & Rec.
presented a three year plan for general
maintenance and improvements for our
city's parks and trails. The proposed
budget for the first year of the three
plan was $79,500 requiring $50.000 of
general city funds. Council approved
our proposed budget unanimously and
will include the amount of $50.000 for
Parks & Rec. in upcoming final budget
actions for calendar year 2000.
While Parks & Rec. requested
$50,000 be allocated from the city's
general fund for operating purposes,
the entire proposed budget for 2000 is
$79,500. The committee members of
Parks & Rec. developed an ambitious
three plan that will greatly improve

parks and trails for all users. In the
year 2000, the committee wants to use
$29.500 of park dedication fees to
cover the costs of such things as park
signage, trails, curb and gutter at
Lamotte Park. and playground equip-
ment for Royal Meadows park. Park
dedication fees are those monies re-
ceived by Parks & Rec. in lieu of land
during local housing development pro-
jects.
Future goals for 200 I and 2002
include:
. A shelter for Eagle Park
. Black topping of the parking
lot in Lamotte Park
. Playgroun'd equipment for
Lamotte Park
. Tennis and basketball courts
. However, large snow falls make it diffi-
cult, ifnot impossible for City plows to clear mailboxes well enough for letter carriers to deliver mail. City crews will continue
to do the best they can, but residents are ultimately responsible to keep mailboxes clear to ensure mail delivery.
* Keep Fire Hydrants Free of Snow
Please help Centerville by keeping fire hydrants free from snow. The public works department appreciates your help in re-
moving snow from around fire hydrants located near your home,
* Sidewalk Snow Removal
Ordinance #49 requires all owners of property in the City of Centerville to provide for the removal of snow, ice, dirt, debris,
litter, branches and other obstructions or accumulation of materials from all public sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24
hours.
* City Snow Removal
The City Council has adopted a snow removal policy. Snow plowing operations will not generally be considered for a snow-
fall of less than I 1/2 inches. "Snow Plow Routes" will be plowed first. These are high volume streets which connect major sec-
tions of the City and provide access for emergency services.
* Keep Snow Off Streets
A reminder: It is against the state law to deposit snow, slush or ice in the street. It can cause hazardous driving and walking
conditions for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

~ Printed on Recycled Paper ~
