<br />The Planning and Zoning Commis-
<br />sion is currently reviewing a booklet
<br />of information produced by the
<br />Americ;:an Planning Association. It is
<br />an aid that will help us in preparing a
<br />zoning code and ordinances that will
<br />be comprehensive and readable, lead-
<br />ing Centerville in the proper direction
<br />in the 21 st century. Starting in January
<br />P&Z will meet once a month and have
<br />a monthly workshop to double our
<br />efforts in completing the update of
<br />ordinances in a more timely manner.
<br />The Commission has also for-
<br />warded the Firearms ordinance to the
<br />City Attorney for review after making
<br />just a few final changes. Other events
<br />include a public hearing on a rezoning
<br />request for an apartment complex.
<br />This public hearing was scheduled for
<br />December 7, 1999 at 7:00 at City Hall.

<br />Water/Sewer
<br />Rate Increases
<br />
<br />At the City Council meeting on
<br />November 22, rate increases were
<br />approved for both the sewer and wa-
<br />ter utilities. There has not been a rate
<br />increase for the last three years. The
<br />rates are monitored to ensure that
<br />the fees collected cover the actual op-
<br />erating and maintenance costs for the
<br />respective utilities. The rate in-
<br />creases are as follows:
<br />Water - Flat rate increase from
<br />$15 to $16 per quarter. Usage in-
<br />crease from $1.50 to $1.60 per thou-
<br />sand gallons used.
<br />Sewer - Flat rate increase from
<br />$39 to $42 per quarter.
<br />These increases will be in effect
<br />for the first quarter utility billings pro-
<br />duced in the year 2000.

<br />~ The City of Centerville is looking for two citizen volunteers to serve on the ~
<br />~ Tri-City Police Department Police Commission. The City is finalizing an agree- ~
<br />~ ment that would allow the City of Centerville to become a joint member of the ~
<br />~ Police Department with the communities of Circle Pines and Lexington. The ~
<br />~ Tri-City Police Commission would be comprised of tw.o citizens and one coun.cil- ~
<br />~ member from each respective community. I~ you are Interested, please submit a ~

<br />
<br />Centerville resident, Tedd Peter-
<br />son has accepted employment with
<br />the City of Centerville as a Public
<br />Works Technician. Peterson, who has
<br />held similar positions with other cities,
<br />has nearly nine years experience in
<br />city maintenance.
<br />A twelve year resident of Center-
<br />ville, T edd believes that his knowledge
<br />of the community and residents will be
<br />of a great benefit in bringing forth con-
<br />cerns requiring the attention of the
<br />Public Works Department.
<br />Mr. Peterson is looking forward
<br />to providing services to the commu-
<br />nity that he and his wife have chosen
<br />to raise their four children in.
