That's <br />how the 10 members of the Milinesota <br />Design Team define us from the <br />information they heard and saw during <br />theirfouidayvisit in September. Other <br />impressions that are uniquely <br />Centerville include: (1) We are based <br />in heritage and tradition, (2) We are <br />mindful of current development <br />pressures, (3) We are moving towards <br />a future where families and kids can <br />live mharmonywi~ growth, develop.. <br />ment and the environment. <br />With these. observations, . the <br />Design Team sketched their ideas for <br />future development and gave a <br />presentation to the community. Some <br />of the designs included a youth and <br />community. center, a heritage center <br />(restoring the historic jail that is <br />currently the public works building), a <br />fishing pier on Centerville Lake, a <br />gateway sign, connecting the two lakes <br />with a bridge,. more trails, renovmon <br />of old buildings in downtown. improv- <br />ing the streetscape and slowing speeds <br />on County 14 (Main Street), and new <br />commercial developments with a <br />Village theme. <br />After the presentation, over 40 <br />residents signed up to volunteer to work <br />on projects that interested them. For <br />those who were unable to attend the <br />presentation, the sketches will be <br />available at City Hall <br />for viewing and , <br />the videotape will , <br />.. <br />be shown on the <br />Centerville cable ;> <br />channel 16 in the <br />near future. The Anoka County Community <br />Health and Environmental Services Department is launch~ <br />ing an effort to stop the sometimes deadly and debilitating disease. . <br /> <br />Beginning Thursday, October 1, and continuing through Tuesday, <br />November 3, county residents can receive the influenza shot at a variety of <br />public loomons. In addition, the Health Department will offerletanust . <br />diphtheria booster shots and pneumococcal shots at the clinics. The pneu- <br />mococcal shots are recommended for all persons over the age of 65 and . <br />others with certain health conditions. A donmon of $10 is requested for flu <br />and pneumococcal shots; a donmon of $5 is requested for the tetanus! <br />diphtheria shot. No appointments are ~. <br /> <br />The flu season runs from early December to1ate March. Infiuenza is <br />easily passed froin one person to another by "droplets" expelled in the air <br />by sneezing, coughing, or even talking. ~t contact with articles freshly <br />contaminated by these droplets also contributes to the rapid spread of . <br />influenza. <br /> <br />) <br /> <br />The disease can lead to serious illness, such as pneumonia.;.inf1uenza- <br />related illness and even death. Side effects from the shot am mild, usually <br />beginning soon after the vaccine and lasting one or two days.
