could be mitigated while enhancing their business opportunities. Our conversations will
continue and will work towards compliance and potential changes in the CUP.
STORMWATER/WETLAND
Local Water Plan
City staff are exploring opportunities to reduce redundancies in erosion control inspection
work with Rice Creek Watershed District.
SEWER AND WATER
Water Supply Plan
The Department of Natural Resources has approved our Water Supply Plan. The Council
must now officially adopt it. A thank you is in order to city staff and Stantec for all the
work in getting this through the long process for approval. The city should be proud of
its strong water supply infrastructure which includes two wells and an interconnection
with the city of Lino Lakes. Clean drinking water is far too often something we take for
granted. Having three reliable sources of water means our citizens, and their health are
protected by redundant and resilient systems.
Wellhead Protection Plan
The Minnesota Department of Health recently approved our groundwater model. Our
consultant is in the process of using those results to map out our new Wellhead Protection
Area, which is the final stage of Part 1 of the Plan.
Water Connection Ordinances
A draft ordinance for enforcement of water connections is in the City Council’s packet
for a second reading. The Planning Commission has recommended approval of the
ordinance and the draft in the packet reflects some minor modifications they
recommended.
With the adoption of this ordinance by the City Council, it will become law once
published. From there on out, we will have a much better mechanism to begin reducing
the number of homes not connected to city water.
Downtown Water Main and Street Reconstruction
City staff met with Anoka County staff to review the necessary steps for another attempt
at a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to complete the downtown water and
street project. Next steps include getting county and federal approval of an income
survey document and strategy. Once the plan for the income study is approved, we can
begin the survey.
Staff responded to a survey, sent out by the county, regarding CDBG funding priorities,
emphasizing our needs for the downtown project.
