We have also learned that one of our public works staff members will be undergoing
surgery in November, which will sideline him for plowing duties. We are exploring
options to fill that void until he can return to work.
City Hall Renovation
The architect has completed their work on a layout for a renovation project at city hall.
Staff will present this report and budget estimates at an upcoming work session.
In related news, the air conditioning unit for City Hall and Council Chambers has failed.
The estimated cost to replace it, was around $3,000. Given that we only have a few
weeks of warm weather left, and the fact that we are planning a potential renovation
project that would include a complete HVAC replacement, we are going to tough it out
and wait to replace the unit with the renovation project.
St. Paul Regional Water Service
The St. Paul Regional Water Service
(SPRWS) presented the results of their
recent study on the water supply system
they own and operate on Centerville
Lake. The takeaway from the meeting
is that they intend to keep the pipe in
place that extends from Centerville
Lake south, to the other lakes involved
in their network of water supply
sources, but the intake structure on the
lake is marked for removal in 2020.
The conduit was first installed in 1896,
but hasn't been used since the late
198Os when St. Paul moved to getting
most of its water from the Mississippi
River. The long-range plan is for the
SPRWS to continue to hold onto its
rights to pump out of Centerville Lake
(as well as their other lakes), but likely,
those rights would only be used in the
case of some sort of emergency
(pollution in the river, catastrophic
failure of the river infrastructure, etc.).
PARKS
Committee Vacancy
The parks committee now has just one
open seat.
