VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES <br />We continue to search for volunteers to serve on two (2) of our Boards and Committees. There is an <br />opening on our Parks & Recreation Committee, and one (1) on our Economic Development Authority <br />(EDA) Board. Volunteering is an excellent way to get involved in the community, and connect with others. <br />Information about meeting schedules is listed below. Please call city hall at 651-429-3232 with any <br />questions about these opportunities! <br />Parks & Recreation Committee – Open Seat <br />o Meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., in chambers. <br />Economic Development Authority – Open Seat <br />o Meets monthly on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., in chambers. <br />PLANNING & ZONING <br />Long-time members Linda Broussard Vickers (five <br />years) and Nick Twohy (eight years), resigned their <br />positions on the Commission to newcomers Ms. <br />Gloria Semmelink and Mr. Bruce Thompson. The <br />two (2) were sworn into office as Commissioners <br />on August 16, 2022. Ms. Semmelink brings her <br />experience of serving numerous years on the <br />Geneva, Illinois Planning Commission and their Zoning Board of Appeals. Mr. Thompson brings his <br />experience of real estate, land use and construction management along with being a former member of the <br />City of Maplewood’s Design Review Board. Welcome aboard new members and thank you outgoing <br />members, Ms. Broussard Vickers and Mr. Twohy for your service! <br />Please also congratulate Commissioner David Kubat for being elected Chair of the Commission. <br />PARKS AND RECREATION <br />Volunteer Appreciation Event <br />Preparations for the second annual Volunteer Appreciation Event are being completed. The event is <br />planned for September 15, 2022 at Hidden Spring Park. The City appreciates their volunteers and this is <br />one (1) way we recognize them for serving. <br />Emerald Ash Borer <br />Do you have Ash Trees? Are you aware of the <br />Emerald Ash Borer? Are your trees dying and you <br />do not know why? Do you know the types of trees <br />in your yard? They could be Ash and the City <br />Council just approved Rainbow Tree Care as the <br />City’s preferred vendor for the treatment of Emerald Ash Borer.
