City of Centerville <br />Park & Recreaon Meeng Minutes <br />September 6, 2023 <br />VI. NEW BUSINESS <br />1. 2024 Contract Review for Ms. Nissa Larson of Running Ventures <br />The proposed contract was not reviewed; however, staff made some minor adjustments to it. This <br />item will be placed on the October agenda. <br />2. Letter of Support for Clean Up of Centerville Lake <br /> <br />After discussion, the committee members agreed that Centerville Lake is a great asset to the <br />community and were very much in support of any efforts to improve the water clarity and to clean <br />up the phosphorus in Centerville Lake, eliminating the sources of it and support the use of other <br />types of fertilizers that wonÓt cause harm to the water. The Centerville Lake Association has <br />previously treated the lake and additional information is available at the City Offices. <br /> <br />It was suggested that the Rice Creek Watershed District include education and marketing regarding <br />this issue be added to their website and Facebook page in addition to securing or pursuing grants <br />to implement treatment/projects to clean up Centerville Lake. <br /> <br />Committee Member Seeley has been doing research regarding the possibility of a state plan that <br />would remove phosphorus from all affected lakes in the state and replace with environmentally <br />friendly fertilizers. <br /> <br />Motion made by Committee Member Errickson-Grahek, seconded by Committee Member <br />Fuchs to direct City Clerk Bender to write a letter to the Rice Creek Watershed District, on <br />behalf of the P & R Committee, in support of cleaning up Centerville Lake and improve the <br />water clarity which has been declining, pursuing/securing grants for funding to projects to <br />remove the phosphorus and itÓs sources and any other pertinent information/wording which <br />should be included. All in favor. Motion Carried. <br />3. Request for Donation from the Forest Lake Area YMCA <br />A letter was received by the City from Mr. Bruce Thompson, a board member of the Forest Lake <br />Area YMCA, requesting a donation of $500 to this organization for its Annual Fund to help cover <br />the costs of various programs and services. Mr. Thompson stated there are 97 contracted members <br />of the FLA YMCA residing in Centerville plus many more youth, families and seniors that <br />participate in various programs and utilize available services. This letter was forwarded to the P <br />& R Committee to consider if the committee would be in favor of a cooperative, supportive effort <br />of their activities and also help promote to their events. <br />Motion made by Committee Member Errickson-Grahek, seconded by Committee Member <br />Seeley to recommend to the City Council to approve the request of the FLA YMCA for a <br />$500 donation to their annual fund and to send them a letter of support for their programs, <br />services and activities.
