City of Centerville Park & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes February 5, 2025 V.COMMITTEE BUSINESS (UNFINISHED) 1.Disc Golf Chairperson Errickson-Grahek provided prices associated with needed items for installation, including forms/concrete/sand, signage, baskets, etc. A PowerPoint was provided for Committee consideration.Signage will be $750, and9 Baskets (Mach V) $4,475. The t-box would be 5’ x 8’ in size, with no costs yet available. The labor would be provided by the Public WorksDepartment. Grants are being sought. There was a discussion regarding the disc golf course. Motion by Committee Member Akpan, seconded by Chairperson Errickson-Grahek to recommend toCouncil approval ofthe purchase and installation of a disc golf course at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park in an amount not to exceed $10,000 and to direct the P&R Committee Staff Liaison to submitan Application for SHIP Grant Funding. All in favor. Motion carried. 2.Pickleball Courts –(Previous Motion, Discussion of Mats & On-Going Maintenance –Storage, Annual Installation, Etc.) Staffexpressed concerns regarding the possibilityof injury with the use of mats versus other court surfacing and the ongoing expenditure associated with staff installation, transportation of the mats, and storage needs, as there is currently limited storage capacity. Staff suggested that the funds previously motioned for the purchase of the mats be utilized for purchasing dividers between courts instead.The previous motion was a recommendation to the City Council to expend up to $20,000 to stripe 3 courts, purchase portable nets, and a pickle rollfor installation at the Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park hockey rink in 2025. The Committee discussed the options available. More research will be done on the striping/painting of the courts, the use of mats, nets,and dividers, and the item will be brought back to the Committee for consideration. The item will be tabled for the time being. VI.COMMITTEE BUSINESS (NEW) 1.Authorization of P&R Committee Staff Liaison Approval –Requests for Facility Usage The Parks & Recreation Committee Staff Liaison(Bender)requeststo be authorized to approve park facility permits on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Committee and report back to the Committee with usage schedules.Some written criteria will be developed when considering requests for facility usage. a.Request for Facility Permit, Use of LaMotte Hockey Rink –Centennial Youth Hockey, Monday – Thursdays, January 6 – February 27, 2025 (6:00 -7:00 p.m.).
