City of Centerville <br />Parks & Recreation Meeting <br />September 3, 2025 <br />would utilize 100’ x 40’ of space, it would be low cost, utilize no infrastructure or maintenance by <br />the city and that it would be like a course in Oneka Park in the City of Hugo. Mr. Durrant stated <br />that the course could be constructed by volunteers, maintained by volunteers and that noise levels <br />would be minimal with no evening racing. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the commonality of courses,and that Hugo and Eagan had courses, <br />amount of individuals interested, parking, use, seating, standing, amount of volunteers committed <br />to upkeep, city liability concerns, purpose of open fields, alternative locations, and erosion control. <br />Mr. Durrant stated that courses are around the world, that his development is in support of the <br />track, parking would be minimal, phase II could as seating and standing places, and that there was <br />not an issue with erosion control. <br />Concerns regarding noise, teenagers following rules, Hugo’s RC Course being in a rural location <br />at least a mile from a residence and the necessity of completing additional research. <br />IV.PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />1.None <br />V.UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />1.4-Year Tree Plan <br />Committee Member Fuchs gave no update other than the subcommittee was reaching out for <br />additional quotes. Chairperson Errickson-Grahek stated that she was asked for assistance and <br />obtained quotes from Gertens which were for the purchase of 19-20 trees for the first-year <br />plantings which would cost approximately $200-$300 for 20–25-gallon trees and shrubs of 5-10 <br />gallons. It was felt that there was more impact for bigger trees and that they would take better. <br />She stated that Building Officials has applied for a contractor’s application and have not received <br />approval of that to date. She stated that this would provide additional discounts for the purchases. <br />Brief discussion ensued regarding the ability of residents to receive purchasingdiscounts at the <br />same timeas the city’s purchase,and it was felt that it was imperative that the tree be planted as <br />soon as possiblethis year as it was getting late in the season.Committee Member Fuchs stated <br />that diversity was taken into consideration for plant choices along with soils. Discussion also <br />ensued regarding a Tree Trust and explained that each tree will have a sign that will provide the <br />public with information.Chair Errickson-Grahek stated that it was $279/tree for installation. <br />Motion by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member Akpan to <br />recommend to City Council to Adopt the 4-Year Tree Plan not exceeding $15,000 for year 1 <br />plantings described in the handout (Purchasing & Installation). All in favor.
