· What safety concerns will be addressed with this project?

Because the Clearwater Trail will be designed for a full range of potential users - youths,
families, disabled and older citizens - all potential safety issues will be explored. The trail design
will address multiple-use and adhere to existing guidelines and practices for design and
maintenance of trails.

· Is there urgency to move ahead with this project now, and what consequences are looming?

Centerville Road has been a favorite biking route for the public for many years. It is listed in the
Twin Cities Bicycle Club and Minnesota Bike Atlas as the "Centerville Cycle". The northern
three miles ofCenterville Road have no shoulder. Because of the growth and expansion of
Centerville and the surrounding communities traffic on Centerville Road has become heavy,
making bicycle travel on this stretch of road potentially dangerous. The population explosion in
this area makes a safe biking alternative a priority issue.

· How many people live within one mile of the project?

There are approximately 5,000 people living within one mile of the proposed Clearwater Trail.
This immediate population resides in the communities of Centerville and the Lino Lakes-
Pheasant Hills Preserve; Subdivisions: 1,2,3,4, and 5. Developments in Hugo will also benefit,
in particular, the new Victor Gardens development (Figures 10 and 11).

Figure 10.
