" "j TO: Honorable Mayor and Council Members FROM: Teresa Bender SUBJECT: Sensus Equipment DATE: February 9, 2001 Currently the City has approximately 300 homes that have Modem Interface Units (MIU's) (Sensus equipment used to remotely read meters) installed and approximately 407 homes have yet to be installed. Once training is received for the Sensus equipment, the existing meters can be programmed by Public Works and the remainder installed. We have to keep in mind that Public Works employees need to enter homes to do the programming and must make arrangements with the property owner, which could slow the process. We currently have software from Banyon Data Systems for Point of Sales, Payroll and Fund Accounting. Point of Sales and Fund Accounting will both interface with Utility Billing. Attached, you will find a proposal from Banyon Data Systems for Utility Billing Software in the amount of $4,685. Currently we are using Utility Billing Software that desperately needs to be updated and is a stand-alone software, which means it does not interface with our Banyon Data System Fund Accounting. The City needs to secure several factors before moving ahead on this project, below is a list of the following: Dedicated telephone line (do not have) Caller J.D. (do not have) Dedicated Computer (Windows 3.1, 95 or 98 Installed) (have available) Suggested (Banyon Data Utility Billing Software w/Interface) (do not have) Installation of current version of Sensus Software (obtaining) Training (2-3 days) will be arranged subsequent to the above or when Public Works determines their availability Additional equipment is needed (Paul Palzer can elaborate)
