with sod and driveways will be replaced in-kind, The amount of sod and driveway replaced on each lot will
depend on service locations and any changes in street grade which may be part of the final design to better
fit the existing topography,

Category 8 improvements are divided into three types as listed below:

B-1 - Extension of new water main and services. Full street reconstruction including all new curb.
B-2* - Extension of new water main and services. Full street reconstruction. Road to be left as rural
section.
8-3* - Water main already exists, but new services are proposed. Full street reconstruction. Road to be left
as rural section.

*POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE

The reconstruction of Mill Road allows for alternatives in redesign. In this report it is proposed that Mill
Road, north and south of Prairie Drive, be reconstructed following a 82 and 83 format respectively. 80th
category 82 and 83 improvements mean the street will be reconstructed to a rural section. If the city so
desires, it is possible to reconstruct Mill Road to match the urban typical section used throughout the
remainder of the city. The following table conveys the costs associated with choosing to rebuild Mill Road
with an urban typical section.

TABLE 2 - COMPARISON OF PROPOSED AND ALTERNATIVE CONSTRUCTION OF MILL ROAD

. Proposed" " Alternative" Additional Cost of
Rural Section Urban Section Urban Section
Construction Cost $522,976.98 $808,337.81 $285,360.82
Contingencies 5% $26,148.85 $40,41689 $14,268.04
Engineering 30% $156,893.10 $242,501.34 $85,608.25
Total Cost $755,500.00 $1,091,300.00 $335,800.00
Cost Per ClL Foot 2635 $290.00 $415.00 $125.00

The increase in the cost of construction of an urban section can be attributed to the following factors:
. Increased excavation
o The road would need to be lowered approximately 3 to 4 feet for proper drainage.
. Need for additional storm sewer
o Storm Sewer would be needed to replace the existing ditch and culvert system.
. Increased restoration of residential properties
o Ditches would need to be filled and yards regraded and restored with sod,
. Concrete curb and gutter cost
. Additional Watershed requirements
o The watershed prefers the ditch system and would have few requirements if left as is.
With the addition of curb, gutter and storm sewer, ponding and infiltration features
would be required,

City of Centerville
2009 Street and Utility Improvement Project

-#- Bonestroo

Project No: 616-07-1580
Page 7
