City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />December 12, 2007 <br />8. Approval of the 2007/2008 Rink Attendant. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra stated that this is budgeted and recommends staff make a decision. <br /> <br />Councilmember Broussard questioned whether drug testing or background checks are <br />conducted. <br /> <br />City Attorney Glaser indicated that there is no City policy on this. <br /> <br />Councilmember Broussard recommended that this be a requirement in the future. <br /> <br />City Attorney Glaser commented that his office could provide a waiver. He stated they <br />could provide information regarding a crime of violence, crimes involving children, drug <br />related crime, or crimes involving dishonesty. He stated that this would be applied to all <br />new hires and juveniles. <br /> <br />Motion Councilmember Broussard, seconded by Councilmember Lakso, to approve, <br />with respect to all new hires, that all juveniles must provide a waiver from a <br />responsible adult and to direct City staff to check for the criteria regarding violence, <br />dishonesty, drug and alcohol, and crimes against children; adult new hires must <br />provide a waiver to run their criminal history; employment is contingent upon <br />receipt of such waiver. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Motion Councilmember Broussard, seconded by Councilmember Paar, to authorize <br />City Administrator Larson and Public Works Director Palzer to hire the 2007/2008 <br />Rink Attendants. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />9. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) <br /> <br />Councilmember Lakso introduced the CERT program. She stated that she would be <br />presenting more in-depth information in January, 2008. She stated that her goal is to <br />saturate the media with information in January, 2008 and hopes to begin training in <br />February or March, 2008. She encouraged everyone to participate in the training and be <br />empowered to be prepared during an emergency or disaster. <br /> <br />Councilmember Broussard questioned if people could sign up at City Hall if they have <br />special needs. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lakso stated that as the program grew, that would be a great idea. She <br />commented they hope to have several teams trained throughout the city. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra congratulated Councilmember Lakso for her participation in this program. <br /> <br />IX.
