CC Meeting Minutes
August 23, 1989
Page Three

1987 street Reassessment, motion carried unanimously.

Discussion of the proposed sidewalk on the west side of Brian
Drive in the Hardwood Pond Estates Development.

Maier, stewart & Associates presented a letter to the City
Council dated August 23, 1989 regarding concrete versus
bituminous for sidewalks. It appeared that the recommendation of
the City Engineer was that a bituminous sidewalk is less
expensive initially, but that a concrete sidewalk would last
longer and that cracking of a concrete sidewalk could be
controlled by the use of expansion joints during construction. A
copy of this letter is on file with the City Clerk/Administrator.

Bill Hawkins, City Attorney, advised that currently the City does
not have standards for sidewalks and suggested that the ci ty
adopt such standards. He advised that this would then be
incorporated by reference into all development agreements.

Kathy Welk, 7219 Mill Road, was present in the audience and asked
questions of proposed and future sidewalks wi thin the ci ty of
Centerville.

Motion by Pelton, second by Burgstahler to set the standard for
sidewalks within the City of Centerville to be five feet wide
concrete sidewalks to be installed on collector streets and major
and minor arterial streets; Maier, stewart and Associates are
directed to prepare a standard of placement for sidewalks for
City council review, motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Burgstahler, second by Peterson to request the
Clerk/Administrator to obtain copies of sample driveway
ordinances from other cities, motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Burgstahler, second by Pelton to direct the
Clerk/Administrator to wri te Gerald Rehbein, developer of the
Hardwood Pond Estates development, to inform him that the City of
Centerville is in the process of adopting new sidewalk standards
as specified above and that the City of Centerville requests his
appearance at the next convenient ci ty Council meeting, motion
carried unanimously.
