February 28, 2001
Council Meeting Minutes

Council Member Travis stated that information received at Council meetings from the
liaisons is beneficial, as it is not always found in the minutes of the various
committees/commissions. Council Member Travis also stated that he feels the members
of committees/commissions are providing a tremendous service to the City and should
not be requested to attend Council meetings. Committee/Commission members feel
support of Council when a representative from Council is present and can provide insight
on various issues. Council Member Travis noted that he is not in favor of eliminating
Council liaisons, however; would feel more comfortable with splitting up the liaison
duties differently.

Mr. March questioned the possibility of a Council member being biased on an issue when
presenting same to Council. The City has ordinances and the Commission
needs to consider compliance of same. The Commission relies on Staff for guidance.
Council Member Broussard Vickers also stated that she felt if there were particular issues
Mr. Peterson should be called upon, but it is not warranted or cost effective to have him
attend on a regular basis.

Mayor Swedberg stated it is important that committee/commission members receive
professional input that they need to make responsible decisions.

Council Member Capra stated that she felt it was un-necessary to have a liaison appointed
to the Fete des Lacs Committee.
