City of Centerville
March 27, 2002
Council Minutes

XI. ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT

1. Deferred Comp Report

City Attorney Hoeft reported that Mr. McDonald and Mr. Heefuer had prepared a draft of
the letter to the Attorney General and he will be reviewing it shortly.

Council Member Capra asked whether the IRS had been contacted.

City Attorney Hoeft indicated he had not talked to Mr. Heefuer but will ask him about the
IRS situation.

2. Finance Director (Update)

Ms. Moore-Sykes reported the City would be conducting interviews from 10: 15 a.m. to
3: 15 p.m. on March 28, 2002 for four candidates. She then asked that Council be at City
Hall by 9:45 p.m. to discuss how she likes to run interviews.

3. Logis (Update)

Ms. Moore-Sykes provided Council with a report from Logis. She then pointed out that
the major computer concern for the City is that the backups are not adequate enough to
provide for retrieval in the event of a major meltdown. She also indicated that the City
would need a network server to do an adequate backup and said the City has no current
antivirus software.

Ms. Moore-Sykes suggested using the $17,000 from the intern's position.

Mayor Swedberg expressed concern that, when creating this much hardware, the City
would be creating a systems administrator position to run this system.

Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated that the joint powers agreement between the cities allows for
more purchasing power as well as technical support but it comes with a price. She then
said she had provided the information for review and it would be discussed further at a
later date.

Council Member Nelson said she would like to wait until the City knows what its
liabilities will be.

Council Member Broussard Vickers asked how long it would take to implement the
system if it is approved. Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated it would take three or four months
to implement the system.

Council Member Nelson clarified the City is backing up and is not at risk of losing
information.
