Ken Cook Issue <br /> <br />Council Member Capra asked whether the investigation, would become public. City <br />Attorney Hoeft indicated the information would become public when the entire issue bas <br />been resolved. <br /> <br />VID. NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Financial ~rting Recommendations <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg indicated that Council bad a work session to discuss this matter on <br />January 26, 2002 and had determined that the practices and procedures need to be <br />clarified. He commented that, according to the League of Minnesota Cities, Centerville <br />fulls short in procedure and required personnel to comply with state law. He then <br />commented that the City's computer programs need to be updated to allow Staff to be <br />able to do their jobs. <br /> <br />Ms. Bender commented that there bad been instances where there has been a 45-minute <br />wait to get the system up and running properly. <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg indicated the auditor has said that Staff needs to reconcile its ban1cing <br />statements monthly and should be providing monthly and quarterly reports to Council for <br />review. He indicated the deficit accounts need to be eliminated and the number ofiinvestment accounts reduced for easier tracking. He further commented that Council <br />Member Broussard Vickers and others have raised the concern that Staff workloads are <br />much heavier in comparison to other communities. <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg indicated that Council needed to determine how to proceed and said <br />that Council is the steward of the public treasury and the purpose of the accounting <br />system is to provide thnely and accurate information that can be trusted to be used in <br />malcir\g policy decisions and to track budgets in order to be able to provide residents with <br />a clear and accurate picture of who spent the tnoney and on what. <br /> <br />Page 12 of25 <br />
