City of Centerville
City Council Meeting
September 10, 2008
City Administrator Larson reported that during construction on Main Street, the
construction crew hit a gas main again when digging.
2. Park Updates (Mark Statz~
a. Trade McBride Renovations
Councilmember Lee reported that, when walking through the site, a series of
workmanship issues were noted. He stated that a lot have been taken care of;
however, the touch-up paint is not acceptable. Also, regarding the merry-go-round,
the vendor said all they have to do is lower it 3 inches, but the only good fix would
be to pull the slab and redo it from the ground up.
Discussion ensued.
City Administrator Larson stated that the vendor would reinstall the merry-go-
round, and they are talking about bringing it down to 12" for 2-5 year olds.
Councilmember Lee stated that, if they are going to lower it, it should be lowered
to a better level. He acknowledged that it would be a big job to do it. He stated
that they were told the contractor did not get the installation instructions from the
vendor.
City Administrator Larson stated that the contractor wants to do more work within
the City, so they will fix it.
Mayor Capra stated that she would like to see list of things Parks & Recreation
feels the contractor should do.
Councilmember Paar stated that he is opposed to the contractor going down to 12
inches and thinks it should go down to the minimum of 6 inches.
City Administrator Larson stated that they need to be cautious on how they direct it
to be lowered. They should specify that it should go as low as it can go within the
safety standards.
Councilmember Paar stated that there are also other items need to be fixed.
Motion by Council Member Broussard-Vickers, seconded by Council Member
Lakso, to direct the vendor to fix the merry-go-round grade to the lowest level
allowed by the safety standards. All in favor. Motion passed unanimously.
City Administrator Larson replied that they need to make sure they had funds
allocated for that work.
