City of Centerville <br />City Council Meeting <br />October 22, 2008 <br />• Officer Matt Langreck is working on a plan for preventing theft from motor <br />vehicles, which has received positive response from the citizens. <br />• Residents are being encouraged to make sure their garage doors are closed and <br />locked. <br />• There was some juvenile activity at Eagle Park. Mayor Capra commented that the <br />City is looking at thinning out the trees in Eagle Park, which may help eliminate or <br />reduce some of that activity. <br />• The Police Department made 140 traffic stops, but only issued 8 citations. There <br />was only 1 DUI issued in the last 1-1/2 months. <br />2. Dr. Roger Worner, Superintendent of Schools -Profile of School District, <br />Hi~ghts of 2007-08 Organizational Year and Focuses/Goals for the 2008-09 <br />Organizational Year <br />Dr. Roger Worner stated that this is the fourth year he has had an opportunity to talk to the <br />City Council about the accomplishments and challenges of Centennial School District 12. <br />He introduced School Board Chair Christina Wilson, Treasurer Karen Lodico, and Clerk <br />Suzy Guthmueller. He stated that he and the School Board are proud to serve young <br />people and their parents, and he is proud of the relationship he and the School Board have <br />had with the City Council. He stated that the City Council does a marvelous job of <br />representing the City. <br />Dr. Worner also acknowledged that there were a high number of students from the <br />Government Class in attendance at the City Council meeting to learn how the Centerville <br />City Council and the U. S. Government operate. <br />Dr. Worner stated that he is also proud of the Police Department, which serves the City <br />remarkably well. He added that they never worry when there is a need for the Police <br />Department. <br />Dr Worner reported that the young people from Centerville and the surrounding <br />community are doing an outstanding job. He showed the City Council a slide of a Fact <br />Sheet that is updated annually, regarding population, geography, number of students, <br />budget, attendance rates, school lunches, etc. He stated that a copy of this Fact Sheet had <br />also been given to the Councilmembers. Some of the major student accomplishments he <br />discussed were: <br />• Students excelled in attendance, with a 96.29% attendance rate. <br />• Students excelled in behavior -Serious discipline (non-expulsion) was at .0007%. <br />• Students excelled in Achievement - Dr. Worner showed slides of graphs comparing <br />the achievement of Centerville students vs. MN average and surrounding <br />communities. <br />Dr. Worner also reported on the following: <br />• The School District has significant focus on early intervention with students <br />experiencing learning difficulties. <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />
