Meeting Miwltes
Joint Meeting
October 27, 1992
page two

another soccer field and playground equipment could be
constructed. It appeared to be his opinion that the City can not
repeat the Water Tower Park playground equipment installation in
every park.

Park and Recreation Committee member Larson noted that the City
still needs smaller parks. Local kids need a place to play. It
keeps them off the streets. Trails interconnecting the parks
will help make the smaller parks accessible to all. Maybe the
park in the Northeast Quadrant could have a small shelter and a
picnic type area versus playground equipment.

Council member Pelton advised that she would not be in favor of
putting a smaller neighborhood park (versus a large City park) in
the Northeast Quadrant unless the City could obtain all of the
Drewlo/LaMotte property adjacent to Central Park. She further
recommended that at a minimum the City utilize it's option to
take 10% of the Acorn land area as park dedication. The land if,
obtained at the time of development, is at no cost to the City.

Pelton noted that the Acorn Creek development is going to be
marketed as estate type housing. A park is a nice buffer area.
New home owners may see a park area as an amenity.

Mr. Vanderbeek advised that it is his understanding that the
Developer and Builder of Acorn Creek have agreed that they need a
four acre park for marketability. It is further his
understanding that the location of the park will depend upon the
location of the ponding area and whether the ponding area is wet
or dry.

Council member Burgstahler advised that what ever decision the
City makes, it will be forever. Personally he would rather see
the land stay rural, reality is that someday all of the land will
be developed to the north. He noted that he would rather see one
larger park in the Northeast Quadrant than several smaller ones.

Burgstahler observed that it appears to be the consensus that
most persons want a park in the Northeast Quadrant. It the City
does not take advantage of the land park dedication with Acorn
Creek it may be a while before the City has another opportunity.
The residents he has talked to would rather see park land versus
a monetary park dedication.

Burgstahler continued that the next issue is the
ponding. Will it be wet or dry, where will it be
trees be preserved? He noted that the Developer
appear to have some of the same objectives with this
amenities are need to market higher value homes.

issue of the
and can the
and the City
development,
