<br />in excess of eight hours per day. The compensation shall be in <br />cash or compensatory time at one and one-half times their regular <br />rate of pay. Although the employee generally may choose whether <br />to receive the cash or compensatory time, the City Administrator <br />may override the employee's choice. <br /> <br />C. Exempt Emplovees - Exempt emplovees shall not be qranted <br />overtime compensation. However, exempt employees also shall <br />not be denied compensation for any absence of less than one day, <br />since the emplovee is presumed to work forty hours per week, <br />some durina the reqular workday, and some outside those hours. <br /> <br />D. Non-Exempt Temporary Emplovees - Non-exempt temporary <br />employees will be paid overtime for work in excess of forty (40) <br />hours per week and will not receive or accrue compensatory time. <br /> <br />E. Overtime Authorization - Overtime should be avoided but when it <br />is necessary the immediate supervisory must give specific approval <br />prior to its being earned. Pre-authorization may be presumed by <br />employees in emergency situations such as excess snowfall, flood, <br />severe storms, water main breaks, lift station malfunctions, or other <br />similar situations where the immediate response of staff is required <br />to avert endangerment of life, home or property, <br /> <br />F, Compensatory Time Authorization - Compensatory time should <br />be avoided but when it is necessary the immediate supervisory <br />must give specific approval prior to its being earned or used, The <br />supervisor will normally consider workload and the potential for <br />service interruptions when deciding whether it is possible to grant <br />the time off. <br /> <br />G. Compensatory Time Accumulation - The maximum number of <br />compensatory hours an employee can accrue at any given time is <br />eighty (80) hours, However, no employee may carryover in excess <br />of forty (40) of compensatory time from year to year. If an <br />employee has a balance of more than 40 hours on December 31 of <br />any year, the employee will be paid in case for any hours over 40, <br />All compensatory time must be used prior to termination, Holiday <br />hours will count as time worked for purposes of computing <br />overtime, <br /> <br />6-7 Outside Employment <br /> <br />Employees must devote all work time to City business, Work time describes the <br />entire workday as scheduled per department. No work relating to outside <br />employment or other non-City business may be performed during work time, <br />
