<br />5. Use of accrued vacation must be approved by the employee's <br />supervisor in advance of scheduled dates. Consideration will be <br />given to operational issues and staffing needs when reviewing <br />employee requests. <br /> <br />6. Requests to use paid vacation shall be received at least twenty-four <br />hours in advance of the requested time off, preferably longer. This <br />notice may be waived at the discretion of the supervisor. <br /> <br />7. Up to a maximum of one week of accrued vacation may be carried <br />over to the next year. Any vacation accrual above the one-week as <br />of the employee's anniversary date will be forfeited. Exceptions <br />may be considered under special circumstances but must be <br />approved by the City Council. <br /> <br />8. Vacation may be taken in increments of one hour or more. <br /> <br />9. The rate of vacation pay will be the employee's regular rate of pay <br />in effect on the date immediately proceeding the employee's <br />vacation period. <br /> <br />10. Holidays occurring during an employee's vacation leave will be <br />considered a holiday and the employee will not be charged for <br />vacation on the day. <br /> <br />9 SICK LEAVE <br /> <br />9-1 General <br /> <br />Regular full-time and part-time employees who have worked for the City for at <br />least six months are eligible to earn sick leave from the date the employee is <br />hired. <br /> <br />Paid sick leave is not available to temporary, intermittent, or seasonal <br />employees. Sick leave may be approved only for days when an employee would <br />otherwise have been regularly scheduled to work. It may be used, with the <br />approval of the supervisor, in any of the following cases: <br /> <br />1 When the employee cannot work because of the illness, injury, <br />or disability of employee, employee's minor children, or <br />employee's spouse; <br /> <br />2 For medical, dental chiropractic, or optical examinations or <br />treatments of employee or employee's minor children; <br />
